These photobooks explore the Northern landscape mostly close to my home in Northumberland.
By using series of images I am trying to avoid the idea of the artist as a privileged seer, choosing "the decisive moment" and the perfect vantage point. I am hoping that the series can evoke movement through the landscape that can resonant with the viewer. In using text relating to place names and histories I aim to explore a wider meaning beyond immediate sensory perception. At times this is melded with personal recollections. Overall I am using this method as a means of exploration that integrates together the physicality of the site, its history and the subjective perception of the artist and viewer. |
