Life of Stones - new solo show9/7/2016 I am putting on a short show of the drawings I made in Shetland. This trip in May 2016 was funded by the University Bartlett Endowment. The drawings are all 150c150 cm on fabriano paper made directly at the sites.
Further information on the gallery website here This is my artist's statement about the work "I am interested in the relationship between an objective, scientific understanding of the world and the inner subjective, felt experience. At archaeological sites the quest for scientific knowledge meets the romance of never knowing (but always wondering). The scientific approach appears to offer truth and yet it can be at odds with how we feel. I have been looking for ways to bridge this gap. Rather than thinking of subjects and objects I am beginning to wonder if I should instead think of a series of intertwining narratives – in this case the narratives include: my life, the paper and crayons, the weather, ancient people, and the history of the stones".
